Initially, the focus will be on licensing space for pillars, but BMRCL is also considering future options for inside metro stations. They estimate that BMRCL could generate around Rs 5,000 per pillar, based on successful models implemented in other cities. This extension will generate significant non-fare revenue by licensing the space to telecom operators. The Managing Director of BMRCL, Anjum Parwez, explained that cellular companies will need to specify the space requirements on the metro pillars and the exact routes for tower installation. To facilitate this, the BMRCL is planning to lease space on metro pillars for the installation of cellular towers, which will enable high-speed 5G internet access. The aim of this initiative is to provide commuters with a seamless digital experience.
